The most applied model of the drive systems in general is the conventional propulsion system application. In conventional propulsion systems, transmission to the propellers is provided by the main propulsion system, the diesel engine, through the gearbox. The electrical energy requirement on the ship is produced by diesel generators and alternators, which are auxiliary machines. In conventional hybrid drive system applications, electrical energy is required for other loads operating on the ship during propulsion via the engine/alternator connected to the gearbox.
